The DoSeum opened its current home in June 2015, a roughly 104,000-square-foot facility on 5.5 acres at 2800 Broadway, with the museum counting more than 90,000 square feet of interactive exhibit space. General admission is $18 for ages 1 and up, and a Family of Four membership runs $180 a year. Here is the honest parent's guide.

The number that frames it
The DoSeum is San Antonio's dedicated children's museum, and its home just north of downtown is bigger than most people expect: a roughly 104,000-square-foot facility that opened on June 6, 2015, on 5.5 acres at 2800 Broadway, per San Antonio Museums and The DoSeum's mission and vision page. The museum itself describes the space as more than 90,000 square feet of interactive exhibit space.
The DoSeum succeeded the old San Antonio Children's Museum, which had operated downtown since 1995, and gave the city a purpose-built museum for young minds. For a relocating family scouting San Antonio with kids in tow, it is one of the handful of places that can genuinely anchor a good weekend visit.
What the kids actually do inside
The exhibits are built the way kids think: touch first, ask questions later. In Little Town, children run a child-sized city with a miniature Whataburger and H-E-B, work the car wash, and try on grown-up jobs in spaces scaled to them, per The DoSeum's exhibit list. Spy Academy sends them through laser courses and code-cracking missions, Sensations Studio plays with light and sound, and the musical staircase turns the walk between floors into a tune.
Outside, the Big Outdoors area gets kids climbing and running, and seasonal exhibits like the bubble lab rotate through the calendar. The short parent version: plan more time than you think. Most families do not see it all in one visit, and that is by design.
What it costs, honestly
General admission is $18 for kids and adults ages 1 and up, with children under 1 free, per The DoSeum's admission page. Seniors 65 and older, educators, and military visitors pay $14 with ID, and the Museums for All program sets admission at $3 per person for SNAP or WIC EBT cardholders. The museum is closed on Tuesdays, runs 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. most days, and opens noon to 5 p.m. on Sundays.
If you will visit more than a couple of times a year, membership is the honest math: a Family of Four membership runs $180 a year for unlimited visits, guest discounts, and reciprocal access to other museums through the ASTC and ACM networks. At the $18 walk-up rate, that family membership roughly pays for itself in three visits, which makes it a popular grandparents-plus-grandkids gift around the holidays.
How to make a visit work
A little planning turns a chaotic museum afternoon into a genuinely good one. The habits that work for most San Antonio families:
- Go on a weekday morning if you can; weekends and school holidays draw the biggest crowds.
- Bring a change of clothes, because the outdoor water play can soak a small person even on a cool day.
- Use the outdoor areas as a mid-visit reset before tackling the rest of the exhibits.
- Pair the outing with the [San Antonio with kids guide](/guides/san-antonio-with-kids/) to build a full weekend, including the Witte Museum a short drive up Broadway.
Why this matters when you are moving
Places like the DoSeum do double duty for newcomers. They give kids a happy landing spot in a new city, and they give parents a low-pressure way to preview how the city raises its families. The drive there, the parking, the family restaurants nearby, it all starts to feel like home.
When you are ready to turn that feeling into an address, I can help you compare neighborhoods, schools, and commutes with zero pressure. Call or text 210-744-5478 or use the contact page.
