I just published a full local guide to golf and pickleball communities across San Antonio, Boerne, Fair Oaks Ranch, Stone Oak, and the Hill Country. This post shares the highlights and points you to the whole verified list.
A guide for buyers whose weekends revolve around the game
When relocating buyers tell me they want to live where they can play, the conversation always turns to the same two games: golf and pickleball. San Antonio happens to be excellent at both, and I have spent weeks verifying the places worth knowing, from private country club communities to free public courts, so newcomers do not have to start from zero.
The whole list now lives in one place: Golf & Pickleball Communities in San Antonio and the Hill Country. Below are the highlights.
The golf communities worth comparing
The private club scene runs deep on the northwest side and up the Hill Country. Fair Oaks Ranch pairs two Gary Player-designed courses with club pickleball and tennis courts, which makes it a rare community strong in both games. Cordillera Ranch, near Boerne, is a guard-gated luxury community built around an 18-hole Jack Nicklaus Signature course, with seven clubs bundled under one roof.
Closer to town, The Dominion offers an 18-hole country club course in a gated Hill Country community, TPC San Antonio brings PGA TOUR-level golf (its AT&T Oaks course hosts the Valero Texas Open), and The Club at Sonterra anchors the Stone Oak area with 36 holes across its North and South courses. Each one links to its official website in the guide.
The pickleball picture, from free parks to indoor clubs
Pickleball players moving here are in good shape. Fairchild Park runs 18 lighted outdoor courts that are free and first-come, first-served, McAllister Park has a sprawling outdoor complex, and Bexar County lists courts at parks like Pletz. For hot afternoons and guaranteed court time, a wave of indoor clubs has opened across the city, including Texas Pickle Hall in Live Oak and Southtown, Epoch Pickleball in Stone Oak, and more.
Boerne is expanding too: the city added pickleball courts at City Park and is building new ones at Northside Community Park and Boerne Heritage Volkspark.
55+ communities where pickleball drives the calendar
For active-adult buyers, pickleball is often the centerpiece. Del Webb Hill Country Retreat in the Alamo Ranch area anchors its resort clubhouse with bocce, pickleball, and tennis courts, Regency at Esperanza in Boerne has pickleball at The Hacienda clubhouse, and Sage Stone Oak in Stone Oak offers pickleball and bocce courts plus a putting green.
The guide walks through who each community suits, the typical lot and home character, and the honest notes on memberships, HOA fees, and access rules that matter before you buy.
