Hill Country wineries and tasting rooms near San Antonio and Boerne

The Texas Hill Country is wine country, and the best part is how close it is: Fredericksburg's tasting rooms and the countryside estates around it sit about an hour from San Antonio and roughly 45 minutes from Boerne.

The Hill Country wine region is now one of the state's great weekend escapes, and you do not need to choose between quaint and serious. Fredericksburg alone has dozens of tasting rooms within walking distance of Main Street, plus country estates a short drive out, and Boerne sits perfectly on the way.

Plan ahead the way the locals do: go on a weekday or early Saturday to beat the tour buses, and always book tastings in advance at the busiest estates.

A winemakers' day-trip loop

The classic local loop: leave Boerne in the morning, take US-290 west through the limestone hills, and stack two or three tasting stops before lunch in Fredericksburg, browse Main Street after, then return by a different route so every drive is new scenery. Add Comfort, 15 minutes west of Boerne, on the way back for antiques and a quieter glass.

Venues, addresses, and average ratings reflect the wineries' current public listings and Google review data at the time of writing. Tasting fees, hours, and reservations vary, so check each estate's site.
