Boerne's wine trail: 3 tasting rooms in town and 100+ wineries in the Hill Country

By Phyllis Domingo, REALTOR® · San Antonio Relocation Specialist · 5 min read

Boerne's own wine trail strings together 3 tasting rooms, while the Texas Hill Country AVA around it is home to 100-plus wineries across roughly 9 million acres. Here is how to make a relaxed wine day of it.

The numbers: 100+ wineries, 3 tasting rooms in town

The Texas Hill Country American Viticultural Area, the wine region Boerne sits inside, is home to more than 100 wineries and is the third-largest AVA in the country, covering roughly 9 million acres of rolling limestone hills.

In Boerne itself, the story is smaller and more walkable. The Boerne Wine Trail, which launched in January 2026, is a collaboration of exactly 3 tasting rooms: DeVino Cellars, Lost Oak Cellars, and Platinum Brix Winery. That is the whole trail, and that is the charm.

What makes the Hill Country good for grapes

The same geology that makes this area beautiful also makes it good for wine. The Hill Country's limestone soils, hot days, cool nights, and elevation add up to a grape-growing region that the Texas Hill Country Wineries association says draws roughly a million wine tourists a year.

The AVA was established in 1991, and the association behind it started in 1999 with just 8 wineries. Today it counts 60-plus member wineries, and its Texas Wine Month passport event features 50-plus participating wineries.

A relaxed Boerne wine day

The three tasting rooms on Boerne's trail are close enough to pair with a walk down the Hill Country Mile, which is the best way to do it: taste, stroll, lunch, repeat at your own pace.

If you want to go wider, the wineries just outside town, like Sister Creek, Singing Water, and Bending Branch, are an easy country drive, and the city's own wine page keeps a running list of wineries and tasting rooms in and near Boerne.

  • Designate a driver or book a tour. Hill Country roads are lovely and winding, and the point of a wine day is to relax, not to navigate.
  • Pair a tasting with the Hill Country Mile: shops, patios, and lunch are a short walk apart.
  • Check tasting room hours ahead of time, many keep smaller hours midweek.
  • Fall is a beautiful season for it, the oaks are turning and the patio weather is mild.

The honest local take

Boerne wine country is not a big-city tasting experience, and that is exactly why people like it. It is unhurried, personal, and set against some of the prettiest scenery in Texas.

You do not need to be a wine person to enjoy it. A Saturday of three small tasting rooms, a long lunch, and a walk down Main Street is a pretty perfect introduction to Boerne living.
